SHOOTER

Shooter is chasing black bears in the Deep South with Billy Ray Roberts

Shooter is my nickname for this nice pup that was bred by Chad Barth of Minong, Wisconsin. His sire was a phenomenal bear dog and his grandsire was the 1997 Isaiah Kidd Award Winning Male at NPHA Plott Days. He is a seventh generation Bear Pen-bred hound coming down from Bear Pen Sam to CH Bear Pen Rip to Bear Pen Plott Blackie to Hill's Plott Solaman to NITECH Bear Pen Piney River Wrangler to Barth's Solid Rock to himself, Bear Pen Sundance Sam.

Shooter is very intelligent, learning most tasks on the first try. The first time I took him to the woods he went hunting immediately. He hunts extremely well. The second night I took him he loaded in the dog box without help. The first coon we shot out to him he had it by the throat. The first coon we released for him, he ran and treed it quickly.

Shooter has a good, course mouth on track and a heavy chop on tree. He is in north Florida with Billy Ray Roberts. Billy Ray says he took Shooter out the first time and his dogs struck and bayed a bear. He turned Shooter loose and before he could get into the bay, he struck a different bear. Billy Ray said he heard Shooter run the bear, catch the bear, fight the bear and tree the bear. He said when he got to him he was treeing every breath. So, it looks like bear hunting may be Ol' Shooter's thing. He did not want to stay treed on coons.

I have Chad Barth to thank for letting me own such a nice pup.

Shooter's sire was the great Wisconsin bear dog, Barth's Solid Rock, shown below at left.

His dam is Barth's Rigging Ruby, shown at right.
