Waynesville, NC - It was a proud day for lovers of the Plott dog, the family that gave the breed its name, and for the community at Waynesville, NC as the latest North Carolina Highway Historical Marker was dedicated today at the Hazelwood Elementary School on Plott Creek Road in Haywood County.
Dignitaries ranging from the Mayor of Waynesville to State Senator Queen to NPHA President Gary Cox to Plott historian John Jackson were on hand to join in the celebration. The weather was picture perfect and what a picture the Plott Hound historical marker made as it was unveiled under blue skies with the famous haze-shrouded Plott Balsams forming a majestic backdrop in the distance, the same mountains where the Plott family developed the famous breed of bear fighting dogs that would bear their name.
Watch the Message Forum for additional photos of the historic events of today including the program chaired by Plott family member Bob Plott, the unveiling of the marker, and the reception and book signing that followed. All in all it was a grand day for the Plott dog, the people whose family developed the Plott dog and the lovers of Plott dogs everywhere.
