Richmond, IN - Plott dogs made a great showing at the 50th Anniversary Autumn Oaks in Richmond, Ind., on Labor Day weekend. The event drew 1038 advance entries to set a new record for the event where history has been made for a half century now.
Taking high-scoring Plott honors with a score of 400 plus was “PR” Ice’s Lots A Grit Boone, owned by Michael “Chris” Powell of Dillsboro, Indiana. Chris is a monitor on the PlottDogs.Com message forum and serves as the AKC representative on the PlottDogs Competition Coonhound of Year award advisory committee. We are extremely proud of Chris’s accomplishments with Boone. The young hound has been entered in six casts and has won four for a .666 winning average. Great work, Chris and Boone!
Winning high-scoring Plott female was Evan Workman of Philippi, West Virginia with his “PR” Workman’s Redwood Super Stripe. Stripe is from the famed cross of Redwood Okie and Redwood Josie. Her winning score was 300 plus. Evan has been a longtime friend of mine and I always enjoy seeing him and his Plotts in the winner’s circle which happens frequently. Evan told me that both the high-scoring Plott female and the National Grand Nite Championh Plott were born in his kennel. That's a great accomplishment in itself. Congratulations Evan and Stripe!
Autumn Oaks has always focused on the hounds holding the UKC Grand Nite Champion title and is the event where the honorary title National Grand Champion is awarded to the high-scoring Grand Nite Champion from each of the seven UKC recognized breeds. Winning the title for the Plott breed at the 50th anniversary event was GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Hager’s Mingo-Redwood Solid Oak, owned and handled by Johnny Hager of Dingess, West Virginia. Oak scored a “solid” 325 plus points to clinch the National Grand title. Congratulations to Johnny and Oak!
